Call for Papers: Vierde wetenschapshistorische Woudschotenconferentie ‘Locations of Knowledge’, 17-18 juni 2011
Na drie eerdere, succesvolle Woudschotenconferenties, georganiseerd door de Werkgroep Wetenschapsgeschiedenis van het genootschap GEWINA, nadert nu het moment om de vierde Woudschotenconferentie aan te kondigen. Stonden in de vorige conferenties de thema’s ‘Circulation of Knowledge in the Netherlands’ en ‘Dutch Science-World Science’ centraal, de vierde bijeenkomst zal nu gewijd zijn aan het thema ‘Locations of Knowledge’.



Call for PhD History of Medicine, Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)
The Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB ) offers a four-year grant for a student in the field of Theory and History of Medicine. The aim is to write a PhD dissertation on a topic related to the wider project Standardizing the difference: Classification and norm-setting as instruments in 20th-century medical practice.

Call for Nominations Hanneke Janssen Memorial Prize in the field of History and Philosophy of Modern Physics
The prize - which has been funded by donations through the Hanneke Janssen Memorial Fund - is open to international candidates, for any Thesis submitted for a Master's Degree (or an equivalent thereof), or as a substantial part for obtaining this Master's Degree, in the field of History and Philosophy of Modern Physics.



Thomas Müller receives 1.5 million euro ERC Grant for research on free will
Dr. Thomas Müller (Philosophy / Descartes Centre) has been awarded a prestigious research grant of 1.5 million euros by the European Research Council for his research proposal 'Indeterminism Ltd. An intervention on the free will debate'. Müller argues that the notions of indeterminism and intervention are the main blind spots of the debate on man's free will. In the next 5 years Müller will lay the conceptual foundations for a novel, rich notion of indeterminism-based free will.



Impressie van symposium 'Een toekomst voor digitaal geesteswetenschappelijk onderzoek'
Op 11 juni 2010 organiseerden de Universiteitsbibliotheek Utrecht en het Descartes Centre van de Universiteit Utrecht, in samenwerking met Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS), Digitaal Erfgoed Nederland (DEN) en de universiteitsbibliotheken van Gent en Leiden een symposium over tekstgerichte, digitale bronnen in de geesteswetenschappen en welke mogelijkheden die bieden voor computationele analyses.
